THE FOLLOWING MEMORIALS

THE manuscripts of the late Rev. William Jones, shortly after his decease, were placed in the hands of the author for publication, in such a form as might be deemed most expedient.

On examination, he found that they contained "a short memoir of the first fifty-five years of his life;" "a diary, and copies of letters; "memorandums," continued almost to the close of life; eleven volumes of sermons, and sketches of sermons; two folio volumes on various subjects; and a large quantity of original poetry. It was impossible, therefore, to present the memoirs and remains to the public in any other form than the one which they now assume; and it has been the sincere aim of the editor to make that selection and distribution of his materials, which might most advance the glory of the great Head of the church in the salvation of sinners, and the edification of believers.
