Winding or straight, it leads
Right onward to Thy rest.

3 I dare not choose my lot:
I would not, if I might;
Choose Thou for me, my God,
So shall I walk aright.

4 The kingdom that I seek

Is Thine: so let the way
That leads to it be Thine,
Else I must surely stray.

5 Choose Thou for me my friends,
My sickness or my health;
Choose Thou my cares for me,
My poverty or wealth.

6 Not mine, not mine the choice,
In things or great or small;
Be Thou my Guide, my Strength,
My Wisdom, and my All.

348 (435).

LORD, my best desire fulfil,
And help me to resign

C. M.

Life, health, and comfort to Thy will,
And make Thy pleasure mine.

2 Why should I shrink at Thy command,
Whose love forbids my fears?
Or tremble at the gracious hand
That wipes away my tears?

No, rather let me freely yield
What most I prize to Thee,

Who never hast a good withheld,
Or wilt withhold from me.

4 Thy favor all my journey through
Thou art engaged to grant:
What else I want, or think I do,
'Tis better still to want.

349.

LORD, how full of sweet content

L.M.

Our years of pilgrimage are spent!

Where'er we dwell, we dwell with Thee,
In heaven, in earth, or on the sea.
2 To us remains nor place nor time;
Our country is in every clime!

We can be calm and free from care
On any shore, since God is there.

3 While place we seek, or place we shun,
The soul finds happiness in none;
But with our God to guide our way,
'Tis equal joy to go or stay.

4 Could we be cast where Thou art not,
That were indeed a dreadful lot;
But regions none remote we call,
Secure of finding God in all.

HOLINESS.

350 (423).

LOVE divine, all love excelling,

8s & 7s

Joy of heaven, to earth come down!

Fix in us Thy humble dwelling,
All Thy faithful mercies crown.
Jesus, Thou art all compassion,
Pure, unbounded love Thou art;

Visit us with Thy salvation,
Enter every trembling heart!

2 Breathe, oh, breathe Thy lovely spirit
Into every troubled breast!
Let us all in Thee inherit,

Let us find Thy promised rest.
Take away the love of sinning,
Alpha and Omega be;
End of faith, as its beginning,
Set our hearts at liberty.

3 Come, almighty to deliver,
Let us all Thy life receive;
Graciously return, and never,
Never more Thy temples leave!
Thee we would be always blessing,
Serve Thee as Thy hosts above;
Pray, and praise Thee without ceasing,
Glory in Thy precious love.

4 Finish then Thy new creation,
Pure, unspotted may we be;
Let us see Thy great salvation
Perfectly restored in Thee!
Change from glory into glory,

Till in heaven we take our place,
Till we cast our crowns before Thee,
Lost in wonder, love, and praise.

351 (446).

10 let our lips and lives express
The holy gospel we profess;
So let our works and virtues shine,
To prove the doctrine all divine!

L. M.

2 Thus shall we best proclaim abroad
The honors of our Saviour God,
When the salvation reigns within,
And grace subdues the power of sin.

3 Our flesh and sense must be denied,
Passion and envy, lust and pride;
While justice, temperance, truth and love
Our inward piety approve.

4 Religion bears our spirits up,
Whilst we expect that blessed hope,
The bright appearance of the Lord,
And faith stands leaning on His word.

352 (424).

L.M.

H, that my load of sin were gone!

Ooh, that I could at last submit

At Jesus' feet to lay it down,

To lay my soul at Jesus' feet!

2 Rest for my soul I long to find:
Saviour, if mine indeed Thou art,
Give me Thy meek and lowly mind,
And stamp Thine image on my heart.

3 Break off the yoke of inbred sin,
And fully set my spirit free;
I cannot rest till pure within,
Till I am wholly lost in Thee.

4 Fain would I learn of Thee, my God,
Thy light and easy burden prove,
The cross all stain'd with hallow'd blood,
The labor of Thy dying love.

5 I would; but Thou must give the power;
My heart from every sin release;
Bring near, bring near the joyful hour,
And fill me with Thy perfect peace.

353 (289).

JESUS, my strength, my hope,

my care,

S. M. D

With humble confidence look up,
And know Thou hear'st my prayer.
Give me on Thee to wait,

Till I can all things do;
On Thee, almighty to create,
Almighty to renew.

2 I want a godly fear,

A quick discerning eye,

That looks to Thee when sin is near,
And sees the tempter fly:

A spirit still prepared,

And arm'd with jealous care,
For ever standing on its guard,
And watching unto prayer.

3 I want a heart to pray,

To pray and never cease,
Never to murmur at Thy stay,
Or wish my suff'rings less.
This blessing, above all,

Always to pray, I want,
Out of the deep on Thee to call,
And never, never faint.

4 I rest upon Thy Word;

Thy promise is for me:

My succor and salvation, Lord,
Shall surely come from Thee.
