The Gospel. St. Matth. v. 20.
ESUS faid unto his disciples, Except your righteous-

ness shall exceed the righteousness of the scribes and Pharisees, ye fhall in no case enter into the kingdom of heaven. Ye have heard that it was said by them of old time, Thou shalt not kill; and whosoever shall kill fhall be in danger of the judgment. But I say unto you, that whosoever is angry with his brother without a caufe shall be in danger of the judgment: and whosoever shall say to his brother, Raca, shall be in danger of the council: but whosoever shall fay, Thou fool, shall be in danger of hell-fire. Therefore if thou bring thy gift to the altar, and there rememberest that thy brother hath ought against thee; leave there thy gift before the altar, and go ihy way; first be reconciled to thy brother, and then come and offer thy gift. Agree with thine adversary quickly, whiles thou art in the way with him; left at any time the adversary deliver thee to the judge, and the judge deliver thee to the officer, and thou be cast into prison. Verily I say unto-thee, thou shalt by no means come out thence, till thou hast paid the uttermost farthing.

The seventh Sunday after: Trinity.

The Collect.
ORD of all power and might, who art the author

and giver of all good things; Graft in our hearts Raca] Thou vile man. The original word implies a charge of emptiDess, meanness, and despicableness.

Thou fool] A charge of extreme infatuation and wickedness.

Hell-fire) Is a punishment corresponding to a death by fire in the valley of Hinnom. Jerem. vii. 31. It is here asserted that anger, reproach, and reviling, will be punished in proportion to their guilt.

The Collect] This prayer for the love of God and his law was adopted in 1549, from Greg. Sac. The introitus was psalm vii.

the love of thy Name, increase in us true religion, nourith us with all goodness, and of thy great mercy, keep us in the same, through Jesus Christ our Lord. Amen.

The Epistle. Rom. vi. 19. I Speak after the manner of men, because of the infir

mities of your flesh: for as ye have yielded your members servants to uncleanness and to iniquity, unto iniquity; even so now yield your members servants to righteousness, unto holiness. For when ye were the servants of fin, ye were free from righteousness., What fruit had ye then in those things, whereof ye are now ashamed? for the end of those things is death. But now being made free from fin, and become servants to God, ye have your fruit upto holiness, and the end everlasting life. For the wages of fin is death; but the gift of God is eternal life, through Jesus Christ our Lord.

The Gospel. St. Mark viïi. 1. IN those days the multitude being very great, and having

nothing to eat, Jesus called his disciples unto him, and faith unto them, I have compassion on the multitude, because they have now been with me three days, and have nothing to eat : And if I send them away fasting to their own houses, they will faint by the way: for divers of them came from far. And his disciples answered him, From whence can a man satisfy these men with bread here in the wilderness? And he asked them, How many loaves have ye? And they said, Seven. And he commanded the people to fit down on the ground: and he took the seven loaves, and gave thanks, and brake, and gave to his disciples to set before them; and they did fet chem before the people. And they had a few small fishes: and be blessed, and commanded to let them also before them. So they did eat, and were filled : and they took up of the broken meat that was left seven baskets.

The Collect.

O

God, whose never failing providence ordereth all

things both in heaven and earth; We humbly bcfcech thee to put away from us all hurtful things, and to give us those things which be profitable for us, through Jesus Christ our Lord. Amen.

The Epiftle. Rom. viii. 12.
RETHREN, we are debtors, not to the flesh, to live

after the fleth. For if ye live after the flesh, ye fall die: but if ye through the Spirit do mortify the deeds of the body, ye shall live. For as many as are led by the Spirit of God, they are the fons of God. For ye have pot received the spirit of bondage again to fear: but ye have received the Spirit of adoption, whereby we cry, Abba, Father. The Spirit itself beareth witness with our spirit, that we are the children of God: And if children, then heirs; heirs of God, and joint-heirs with Christ; if fo be that we suffer with him, that we may be also glorified together.

The Gospel. St. Matt. vii. 15.
EWARE of false prophets, which come to you in

sheep's clothing, but inwardly they are ravening wolves. Ye shall know them by cheir fruits. Do men gather grapes of thorns, or figs of thistles? Even fo every good tree bringeth forth good fruit; but a corrupt tree bringeth forth evil fruit. A good tree cannot bring forth evil fruit; neither can a corrapt tree bring forth good fruit. Every tree that bringeth not forth good fruit is hewn down, and cast into the fire. Wherefore by their fruits ye shall know them. Not every one that faith unto me, Lord, Lord, shall enter into the kingdom of heaven , but he that doeth the will of my Father which is in heaven.

The Collect.
RANT to us, Lord, we beseech thee, the Spirit to

think and do always such things as be rightful; that we, who cannot do any thing that is good without thee, may by shee be enabled to live according to chy will, through Jesus Christ our Lord. Amen.

The Epistle. Cor. x. 1. RETHREN, I would not that ye should be ignon

rant, how that all our fathers were under the cloud, and all passed through the sea; and were all baptized unto Moses in the cloud, and in the sea; and did all eat the lame spiritual meat, and did all drink the same spiritual drink; (for they drank of that spiritual rock that followed them: and that Rock was Christ:) But with many of chem God was not well pleased; for they were over. thrown in the wilderness. Now these things were out examples, to the intent we should not luft after evil things, as they also lusted. Neither be ye idolaters, as were some of them; as it is written, The people sat down to eat and to drink, and rose up to play. Neither let us commit for picarion, as some of them committed, and fell in one day three and twenty thousand. Neither let us tempt Christ, as some of them also tempted, and were destroyed of serpents. Neither murmur ye, as fome of them also murmured, and were destroyed of the destroyer. The Collei. This prayer for heavenly illumination, or a right judge ment in all things, was adopted 1549, from Greg. Sac. The introitus was psalm ix.

Spiritual meal Manna, which fell from heaven, foreshadowing the doctrine of Chrift; (John vi. 45, 48;) and therefore called spiritual; and the water which issued from the rock and followed them, prefigured she etfufion of the spirit.

Was Chrift? Was an emblem or reprefentation of Chrift.

God is faithful, who will not suffer you to be tempted above that ye are able ; but will with the temptation also make a way to escape, that ye may be able to bear it.

The Gospel. St. Luke xvi. 1. ESUS said unto his disciples, There was a certain rich

man who had a steward; and the same was accused unto him that he had wasted his goods. And he called him, and said unto him, How is it that I hear this of thee? Give an account of thy stewardship; for thou mayst be no longer steward. Then the steward said within himself, What shall I do? for my lord taketh away from me the stewardship: I cannot dig, to beg I am alhamed. I am resolved what to do, that when I am put out of the stewardship, they may receive me into their houses. So he called every one of his lord's debtors unto him, and said unto the first, How much owest thou unto my lord? And he said, An hundred measures of oil. And he said unto him, Take thy bill, and sit down quickly, and write fifty. Then said he to another, And how much owest thou? And he said, An hundred measures of wheat. And he said unto him, Take thy bill, and write fourfcore. And the lord commended the unjust steward because he had done wisely : for the children of this world are in their generation wiser than the children of light. And I say unto you, Make to yourselves friends of the Mammon of unrighteousness, that when ye fail, they may receive you into everlasting habitations.

Rich man) One lesson taught in this parable is, Be as wife in matters of a spiritual nature, as worldiy men are in matters of a temporal nature.

Commended] He commended the prudence of the expedient, though he could not but condemn the dishonesty of the action.

Friends] As the unjust steward made to himself friends of his master's substance, lo do you, my disciples, in all ages, make to yourselves friends of such wealth as you have, by using it faithfully and beneficiently.

Unrighteoufnefi] Or rather, unjust wealth. Mammon is the Syriac word for riches; which may be called unjust, because they are too often obtained by injustice, and minister to oppreflion and iniquity.
