THE COUNCIL OF BEDFORD COLLEGE cannot allow the CALENDAR of their College to appear without a few words of introduction and explanation.
It had long been the desire, not only of the Council, but of many students and friends of the College, that a Calendar carrying back the history of the College to its foundation should be published. The chief difficulty which has hitherto prevented the carrying out of this desire arose from the fact that the records of the early years of the College had been imperfectly kept, and consequently an editor unacquainted with the College would hardly be able to give an accurate and connected account of the gradual development which had occurred.
This difficulty has, however, fortunately been entirely removed, for a lady, who was a student, and now is an Associate and Member of the College, Miss Henrietta Busk, undertook, entirely as a voluntary work, the compilation of this Calendar. Miss Busk has herself been intimately connected with the College and taken much interest in its progress, and is a member of a family who not only aided the foundation of the College, but have ever since taken an active part in its development.
