GREENSBORO TOWNSHIP.

GREENSBORO TOWNSHIP is located on the west side of the county, and is bounded on the north by Harrison township, on the east by Henry and Spiceland, on the south by Spiceland and Wayne, and on the west by Wayne township and Hancock county, and contains about twenty-five square miles.

The surface is generally rolling, and in some parts inclined to be broken; yet there is but very little waste land in the township. The soil is rich and productive. The timber of the township is of good quality, consisting of walnut, poplar, oak, maple, and other varieties. The supply of gravel is good, while in some parts of the township there are considerable quantities of

stone.

Duck Creek and Blue River, and other smaller streams, supply the township with an abundance of stock water.

Greensboro and Woodville are villages of considerable trade, and places of resort for the citizens of the township.

The present population of the township is about 1,600. Some of the first settlers were Jacob Woods, Jacob Elliott, Eli Stafford, S. Pickering, Joseph Ratliff, and David Bailey. Township Trustee, Stephen Deitch; number of school-houses, 9; valuation of school property, $6000; town and corporation stocks, $2000.
