FIRST CLASS ARMY SCHOOL CERTIFICATE

OF

EDUCATION.

The 1st Class Certificate is now generally considered the educational requirement for promotion to the various branches of the Warrant Rank in the Army, and is one of the qualifications for a combatant commission from the ranks.

The Standards are:

READING.-From one of the most advanced school books. Full marks, 100. Qualifying minimum, 60.

WRITING TO DICTATION.-From one of the most advanced school books. Full marks, 100. Qualifying minimum, 60. ARITHMETIC.-The whole subject. Full marks, 100. Qualifying minimum, 50.

OFFICIAL LETTER AND PRECIS WRITING.-From data furnished by the examiner. Full marks, 50. Qualifying minimum, 30.

EXTRA SUBJECT.-Full marks, 100. Qualifying minimum, 50. Candidates for 1st Class Certificates must be examined in one at least of the following:
